The 78 150 is coming along. I the engine is tired.....but I'm considering a reman 69-72 era Lincoln version 460 for a temporary replacement. I may need to invest in aluminum heads either way, and headers. Did the old blocks with larger plugs have dished pistons by chance? I'm hoping to turbo...
Was changing plugs, and changing thermostat down to a 160° on my 78 460 and I noticed that the plugs I got for this engine didn't match. They were way smaller, taking a 5/8" and not a 3/4 socket. I went back to the store thinking they pulled the wrong item, but that wasn't the case. I told him...
On a side note; I'm selling my 72 camper special.....for about $500 bucks. I live in Louisiana if anyone knows anybody who isn't scared of a lot of work and potential.....the value of these trucks is going up steadily......still considering keeping it, but I'm not a mechanic or body guy (not...
Would it be better to buy a reman 68 era 460 for a Lincoln Continental with no smog or one specifically for the 78 pick-up?Same price pretty much minus the core maybe.Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Hope everyone is well. After attempting to get truck road worthy, and putting it through it's paces it is evident that it is burning a lot of oil. This truck must first and foremost be reliable as it will be my primary/ only/ work truck. What is the best solution? Am I correct to assume a...
He did mention a delete plate or egr plate. I'll look at what you referenced. The vent on the valve cover not being hooked up to the air cleaner couldn't contribute to the detonation could it?I don't mean to be so ignorant. Thanks for all the help.Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Thanks y'all.I pulled the hose off the egr.....I thought it was the egr. Isn't that the port on the left valve cover towards the rear? It was going to the left side of the carb. He said to put it to the front if anything because my crankcase pressure or vaccuum is off causing smoke to rise up...
Hope everyone is well.I finally got the main issue with the power bleed/ non functioning alternator worked out...I say me; it wasn't me. It was just hooked up backwards. As far as the three wires going to one.....well....it isn't causing any adverse issues as of yet that I can tell. Now my...
Are the hood hinge supports the same on the fifth and sixth gen?Might just swap hoods and her the 72 back rolling for now.ThanksSent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
There are wires just jumping into other wires. I'm lost and nearly overwhelmed trying to make sense of it. I looked at some diagrams but that didn't really help because I can't really read them. Can I run a hot from battery to regulator to alternator without all the other stuff?Sent from my...
Replaced starter.....which was different from the one on my 390. Replaced damaged silinoid. The wiring on this thing has seen better days for sure.I can jump it off and it fired right up. I can take the cables off and she continues to run. Then anywhere between five and ten minutes of run...
So I found the short I think, or a big one anyway.Whatever that little box is with the starter wire coming from it is broke; the stud protruding from the side leading to the starter is loose. This caused the starter to stay actively spinning after the ignition was off. When I got it home I...
Got truck finally.Original gas line to from aux tank was still being used and it was inaccessable behind the main tank. I realized this on the side of the road. So I got some fuel line and ran it along the frame to the new aux tank.Ignition seems to be arching too....not to comfortable...
Holy cow!Last night on my way do drop my helper off, the guy I am currently working for whom I have known for about a decade who was the first to tell me about the truck for sale called me.He went back to the older gentleman's house for a service call to find the truck still sitting in the...
Soooo......even though I had a hood fly off of a 73 truck before; it happened again. And what's worse is I didn't even get it back. I finished yanking it off on the side if the interstate, cut the hood light wire and hauled butt. It's great on sunny days.....truck runs cool as a cucumber. But it...
Thanks for all the sound advice. It was just out of gas it seems.Guy ended up selling it to someone else he had been in contact with, after I got it running. His father is who I was dealing with the day before who said $1000 would take it away for sure, but today I was dealing with his son...
Got spark....ran for a couple of minutes until I took cables off....slowly starved for gas....which doesn't make sense because we put a total of about 4 gallons in it.They changed the rear tank and fuel pump. I checked line after pump before filter and no gas what so ever.
They used existing...
Is this not a BB?Am I mistaken? 7 bolts holding valve cover- 460 ci I thought I had read?Took ignition and some wire ends from 72 this morning.Gonna try to piece together in order to move. What about this 4bbl? Is it okay?Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
I have always had an interest in cars and trucks, especially older ones. I have had a couple of f150s over the years and they were both good trucks. I now have a 72 250 cs full of rust and an 01 f150 v6 that I bought in bad shape and which is now pretty much dead rolling, with a multitude of...
I'll get right to it.My 2001 f150 v6 has been a good little work truck for the past three years, but is now on it's last leg and is ready to retire. It is my work truck and general transportation. Anyway, it has had it. So now to the actual issue; I need a work truck. I have a 72 250 cs with a...
