Need a little steering wheel info

I purchased a Ford steering column some time back that does not have a ignition switch built in. It has a two spoke steering wheel with tilt and cruise (no resume button). The seller thought it was from a Econoline.
My question is: When did Ford change from fully splined steering wheels to wheels with a flat spot in them. This isn’t a blind spline it’s probably 6 or so splines missing and flat. I had a friend get me a very nice replace wheel only to find it has the flat and my steering wheel as all splines.

I think they changed in 77, 71-77 had the solid black wheel, with the rubber insert horn button. Late 77? And on had the wheel with the screw on plastic horn button, and plastic backer behind the spokes.

I was looking at wheels on National Parts Depot's website, for one of mine, is where that info came from, should you like to delve deeper.

Had to edit, I'm vaguely remembering that the flat spot started in 80, I may be wrong in that.
