New Member - Need Help

Thanks for having me, I recently acquired a 1952 Ford F1 215 straight 6 cyl truck. Great condition. Been sitting in Texas in my in laws garage for over 30 years. I had it shipped to michigan. Been getting after it replacing parts and ordering everything it needs to run again. I have recently hit a snag, I purchased a new fuel pump, looks identical to what came off and I have a small air gap on the bottom of the pump flange to the block port. do i need to make a block off plate? which I can do, just wondering why I have this issue. Years of change or something lost along the way. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
