The stock radio did that in my 93 too. it got to the point where it would turn up, but not turn back down by itself, you had to turn it back down. It also started doing it more and more. I just took it out and put in a cheap sony from walmart.
Well actually I might not be doing the engine swap now, I found a guy that offer to sell me the parts he bought for his 99 4.0L SOHC engine (Jackshaft Chain Kit and the front timing cassette plus the tools kit needed to do everything) for cheaper than I could buy them elsewhere. Something about...
So i have concluded that I will get whatever engine I can get for the best price and go from there, whether its a 2wd or 4wd engine. Some of the people on another forum say that the noise and vibration is next to nothing, and some have even taken the balance shaft chain off. I'm going to try...
These are the only pictures I can find.

yeah, i'm reading on another forum and I can find nothing about adding the balance shaft, but a couple of ppl have actually took the chains off theirs. I also read that the balance shaft is really only there of low range 4wd? any truth to this?
hmm, i've read else where that the rangers 4x4 didn't have one, maybe i got the year wrong or just got bad info? Would it cause any long term problems putting a 2wd 4.0L SOHC engine without the balance shaft in a 4x4? The only thing I can find is that it will cause a slight vibration, but...
so, new question. Why does the 4.0L SOHC 4x4 in the explorers have balance shafts up to 2001? The 2001 ranger 4x4 with the same engine doesn't have a balance shaft, so is it really necessary? Meaning if I swap in a 01+ engine in my explorer 4x4 would it hurt anything my the engine now having...
Walmart brand, or what ever is on sale. To me it doesn't make much of a difference. Maybe if I had a new car or something like that I would get the top of the line stuff, but for now its walmart brand.
Never mind on the previous post. I believe the T-stat housing was leaking, So I'm upgrading it to the '02 housing on the Sport-trac. I believe it was leaking here as there was signs of a leak, and the pressure test showed nothing..
Still haven't got the kit yet, But started tearing things down getting it ready for next weekend. Well I got the lower intake manifold off and noticed a Puddle of bright green coolant sitting on top of the block at the front of the engine. There is also a plug in this area, that we found...
Thank yall for the birthday wishes. So far its been pretty good, GF drove 100 miles to suprise me at 8am this morning with a cake and other stuff. To bad I have to work tonight, but oh well. Thanks again yall.
http://www.fordtruckfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11437The kit I'm getting deals with the front chain tensioner I believe, I just hope that I don't have to replace the guides or anything like that on the other chains, as I think I would need that $150 tool to get the timing and...
Thanks Dave. I've been reading up on the 00M12 Kit and I'm going to get it this upcoming Friday and try to put it on this upcoming weekend. The kit pretty much addresses both things in your post, it has the O-rings/Gaskets for the upper and lower intake and the tensioner for the timing chain...
Hello, Some may know I just bought a 98 ford explorer sport 4x4. Its and auto with an 4.0L SOHC engine that has 125K miles on it. When I got it, it was idling really rough, from the stock tach seemed to be close to 600 rpms. I pulled codes and got
P0304 (Cyl 4 Misfire Detected)
P0305 (Cyl 5...
Thanks, yall. I'm really hoping that the spark plugs are the only thing causing the rough idle. After i save up some more money I want to try and lift it a little and throw some bigger tires on it, maybe repack the L/S in the rear.
Well, I now have an explorer, Picked it up Saturday. Giving the f150 to my dad, as I needed something better on gas, more room, etc. Anyway, got a good deal it, less than $2000. The body and interior are in great shape. The engine runs fine on the highway put has a rough idle and some misses...
