Broken clutch linkage piece

coreylongbottom

1977 F250 2WD 351M
Hello, I'm new to all of this and I hope I can find some help here. I just picked up a '77 F250, 2wd with the 351 Modified. I was driving to the parts house the other day and pulling up to a stoplight, the clutch all the sudden went straight to the floor and the truck started making a rattling/grinding noise which I'm assuming came from the transmission. The long rod that runs from inside the cab to near the adjustment bolt appears to have broken, and the adjustment bolt fell out. I recovered the adjuster, but I've never put anything like this back together before. Does anyone have any experience piecing together a clutch linkage like this that could offer some tips? Specifically, I'm looking for someone who could type out sort of a list of which piece connects to which, from the pedal itself to the point where the lever enters the transmission.

You beat me to it Doug :D

Also, I didn't look to see if there are differences, but here is the 1977.

I found that on my truck , the part number "bar-7528" or " equalizer"
was seizing and causing excessive pressure on some of the linkage.
I cleaned it , drilled and taped it and inserted a zerk fitting so I could grease it.

That makes sense. It's just a ball and socket joint, isn't it?

The clutch on my '79 was starting to get stiff when I traded it in.

If you have a copy of the LMC truck catalog, check out the bottom of page 115 on the bottom half of the page you'll find a section that has the heading Clutch Release Components for the 73 - 79 F-100 - F-250 , and the 78 -79 Bronco there isn exploded view diagram with numbers for each piece, and the numbers correspond with the list under the diagram with each piece and the names of each piece listed, it would be helpful for you to look at. Here is their web sit http://www.lmctruck.com hopefully you find this bit of info useful to you.smilieFordlogosmilieFordlogosmilieFordlogo

LMC's catalog info for clutch related linkage parts is incorrect for 1977/79 F100/350's and 1978/79 Bronco's!

Clutch release rod that attaches to the clutch pedal bellcrank, then routes thru the toe board to the equalizer bar has 90 degree ends supported by nylon bushings.

Nylon bushings crack apart/disintegrate, the 90 degree ends begin to crack, eventually snap off. Clutch pedal drops to the floor, lays there like a drunken sailor.
