It is a filter for the heater core. I guess if you have chunks that big, the heater core is the least of your worries, but it might be helpful?

Seems a bit unnecessary in the listed vehicles.

*When I was waiting for my pickup to be inspected the other week, the mechanic was talking to a customer and recommending against "Bar's Stop Leak" in her Passat because it would probably plug the heater core- and in that car, it's a 12 hour (book rate) job that he refuses to do.
