ignition systen diagnostics-'94 351 V8

this is my dad's farm truck, its a '94 F250 with the 351, E4OD, 3.55's reg cab longbed. he's had ocassional problems with it starting, will spin the motor over but no spark, replaced the t.f.i. module and is now stumped, coil seems to be good, pickup coil inside the distributor maybe? i dont know alot about this ignition setup, is there a set of specs for the componets or a genearal ideal of what to look for? when it was running it would always stay running, seemed to be more of a cold-start thing. he says there is a weak spark there when turning it over with a plug wire arcing to ground, but very weak, sometimes nonexistant.
