More'n likely, what the torch did was expand the two pieces at different rates, and that expansion broke the rust free. Even if it's not enough to break it free, it opens it up enough to get a little more penetrating oil in there, which is why I recommended the heat, PB Blaster, heat, PB, routine.
I've been known to heat the piece with the female threads in it with a torch while holding an ice cube on the head of a bolt to maximize the temperature difference...
