T18 swap to T170FT will it work?

Alright i have a 1976 ford f250 with a 360 and a T18, i want to know if i can do a direct swap to T170FT possibly. i say this because i dont NEED the grany gear even though its super cool. im trying to get better gas mileage. the t18 has a divorced np205. what im asking is will the splines match up, will bolt pattern match, ill probably have to get a custom shaft for the t case, and will i run into the problem of its too long for direct fit or do i have to cutout a hole for the stick?

You could try and find a T-19, all gears are syncro and the first gear isn't so low. Direct swap.
